Indian police outfit all set for a makeover?
HYDERABAD: Dark brown trousers, a cream cotton shirt with a little touch of blue on the flap and badge that reads ‘’Indian Police’’ and a cream baseball cap with the word ‘Police’ written over it along with black shoes. The Indian police or the men in khaki seem all set for a makeover.
The Bureau of Police Research and Development under the Ministry of Home Affairs has finalised the new uniform for the policemen and the idea is to have one uniform for the force across the country. The only hurdle before MHA -- nod from all state governments. Once the state governments give the green signal, policemen across all states, including IPS officers, will shed their khakis for the new smart uniform. The new uniform seems to be slightly similar to those worn by American police in some states. The Bureau of Police Research and Development recently held a trial meeting where senior officials from the Indo-Tibetian Border Police (ITBP), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) among other agencies gathered to have the first look at the new uniform.
The catchy feature of the new uniform though is the baseball cap and the badge ‘’Indian Police’’ on the shirt. The black belt though seems a bit out of sync. Now that the MHA has finalised the new uniform, it is writing to all state governments to present their views on it. For the first time, the state governments will also be asked to state their position on whether the country can have one uniform across the length and breadth of the country.
