Now traffic police offer roses to traffic offenders
AGRA: In yet another example of classic policing, the city traffic police offered 'Roses' to people who were found violating traffic rules and asked them not to repeat the mistake again.
Often it is found, that two-wheeler drivers prefer to veil their face with handkerchief and scarf rather than wearing helmet. The traffic cops on Monday offered flower and a pamphlet having traffic rules, instead of issuing challan to them.
As per national crime bureau data, in 2014, Agra reported 492 deaths in road accident, while 803 were gravely injured. Majority were of those victims, were not wearing helmets.
Speaking to TOI, superintendent of police for traffic in Agra, Rajesh Kumar Singh, "The idea was to inculcate and embed the sense of responsibility to follow traffic rules among citizens, who after so much of challan drive have still not learn to abide the traffic rules."
"We were shaming them in front of public by offering them roses, so that they can now wear helmet, follow traffic signals and avoid rash driving. All the traffic offenders were given pamphlet of traffic rules and regulations," he added.
In the month of June, 15 day's drive against traffic violators across UP, Agra topped the chart of issuing challan and collecting penalties. Though out of total of 9,643 drivers who were challaned for violations of traffic norms only 1-2 % were women drivers. An amount of Rs 17, 21,300 was recovered from them violators of traffic rules.
