Soon, Stealth Body Cameras for Mumbai Police
Mumbai Police will soon get state-of-the-art stealth body cameras to be deployed during security checks and patrolling, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on Wednesday. The move comes after a spate of attacks on policemen on duty.
The cameras, which policemen would wear on their person, will be linked to the control room. “It will help us dispatch assistance in case of an assault and will also act as video evidence.
Eventually, it will become a deterrent," Fadnavis said during an event to inaugurate the Mumbai Heart Healthy City programme for city policemen.
The programme, being partnered by the Asian Heart Institute, aims to offer free health check-ups to 5,000 policemen in the initial phase. It also includes a comprehensive heart-focused examination and medical mapping.
Fadnavis has appealed to other city hospitals, too, to come forward and join the all-inclusive health assessment programme to cover more than 18,000 police officials above 40 years of age.
The programme also aims to keep a digital health record of officials across all the police stations.
"Policing as a profession is highly stressful and many of them suffer from heart ailments. This initiative will help transform the lives of police personnel and take preventive measures," Fadnavis said.
The Maharashtra chief minister also announced 25,000 to 30,000 ownership houses for police personnel and a first-of-its kind smart township project in the city for the force with about 8,000 houses.
The health camp is being held at the Naigaon facility of Mumbai Police.
